1939 Chevy Master Deluxe

Components

Interior Heater

Here is the entire heating system from Phillip's 39 Master Deluxe. It consists of a small radiator core (heater core) enclosed in this metal case. Behind the core is a  fan with an electric motor. The front doors open and rotate as a unit allowing the user to direct the air flow. The small screw on top is an air bleeder and the thumb screw on the bottom is a drain. This Atlas Master unit is tan in color with the front of the case and doors finished in wrinkle paint. It will be refinished with a brown wrinkle paint. This time the entire unit will have a wrinkle finish matching the radio.
Disassembly is simple. In this picture I have started polishing the aluminum trim and handles on the front cover. I was surprised how well they buffed out. The core itself was originally finished in the gray engine paint. I purchased brown wrinkle paint from Chevs of the forties. It's described as Radio and Heater paint. I'm not sure if the unit originally came with the ground wire attached  to one of the front cover mounting screws. I will move it to a more attractive location. The parts were all cleaned, sanded and sprayed with K 36 primer. After proper drying time the parts were painted with the brown winkle paint. The parts were then placed on an upside down cookie sheet and placed in a 225 degree oven to activate the wrinkle effect. The reassembled unit looks  and works great.
