| Once again the troop and I had a great time volunteering at
the eighth annual Landmark Dodge Southern Classic Mopar show hosted by the
North Georgia Mopar Club. The event grew to this year to include a Friday
show and shine and drag racing. The Atlanta Motor Speedway was kind enough
to allow Troop 162 to camp out around the lake outside the track Friday
night after the drag racing. The scouts had fun camping and geese around
the lake woke the boys up in plenty of time to grab a quick breakfast
before reporting for duty at the show. The scouts did a great job of
assisting with directions and guiding spectators to parking spots all day.
They took turns and were invited into the show for free when they weren't
working.
The NGMC did a fantastic job with the show this year and really
improved the speedway cruise experience by offering it four times. Since I
entered two cars in the show I received two tickets for the cruise. I
drove around the track last year so this year I passed the tickets to
Scoutmasters Larry Snead and Damon Franklin. Once again the Petty Charger
was such a hit that it was requested to participate on the last speedway
cruise of the day and set up for a photo op with an awesome Lee Petty Hemi Dodge on
the start/finish line when it was over. God made sure I stayed humble.
When the photo shoot was over the Charger stalled and I couldn't get it fired
back up. (nervous jitters?). The Scouts came to the rescue and pushed me
back to the pits. |
