Custom Mini Chopper prototype

Chrome, paint, and flames

Finally! We are getting close now. I took the front forks and jack shaft brackets to Southern Auto Bumper in Forrest Park GA for chrome.  I paid for polishing and plating for the forks, but just plating for the brackets. Mistake. I should have paid the extra $50 for polishing the brackets, live and learn. The forks on the other hand look great.

The frame was coated with a layer self etching primer. Next Zack and I used a little bondo to smooth out the welds. Once the bondo was done the entire frame and tank were covered with a layer of PPG epoxy primer. I had some purpleish blue PPG DCB base/clear paint left over from and previous job. The frame and tank were both coated with three layers.

Before shooting the clear, I decided to try my hand at free handing some flames on the tank. Originally I was going with straight silver for the flames but I couldn't resist the temptation to try blending some red on the flame tips. I spent 45 minuets experimenting with masking tape and flame design. Not bad, I may still outline the flames with pinstripe paint. I did learn a great deal and can't wait to the next flame job I get to do.

Stay tuned for the reassembly....
