| The following
is a list of graphs I use to monitor the performance my trucking
business. These charts
display my monthly maintenance and breakdown costs as well as the
average price per gallon I have been paying for diesel fuel. I
categorize any expense related to cleaning and routine upkeep as
Maintenance and any expense related to equipment failure as Breakdown.
The large maintenance spikes are generally related to
tire purchases, I prefer to purchase tires one axle at a time. The March
1999 high maintenance costs were related to getting my "new
used" truck set up with lettering, chrome hub caps, custom mud
flaps and getting the horsepower turned up.
The fuel mileage of the 470 horsepower 60 Series Detroit
Diesel consistently averages around six miles per gallon. BTT keeps me
loaded heavy most of the time. On the rare occasion I pull several light
loads in a row, the average may go as high as seven miles per gallon. I
also tend to drive between 65 and 70 miles per hour on the interstate,
reducing my speed also increases mpg, but not that much when pulling
heavy loads.
